Who Owns ATMs And Where do the fees go?
For Many of our clients, this is the first question. and arguably the most important one.
Many people believe that big banks own all the ATMs in the world, taking our hard-earned money and lining their pockets with it. Charging us fees for taking our money out of “our bank” and although they’re not wrong, they’re not right either.
Many Companies, like Ford Frontier Investments, buy ATMs and act as a sort of middleman, connecting banks, credit card companies, businesses, and customers with the cash held on their plastic cards
But this money doesn’t belong to the banks, it belongs to the owner of the ATM. Which in certain cases is the banks. but not always. That’s where the fee comes into play.
The “Surcharge” collected goes to the owner of the ATM, allowing them to pay for the machine while also gaining profit from the cash.
This surcharge goes to re-payment of the machine, repair of the machine (because like any technology things happen), Credit Card fees (If you are a business owner you understand what I’m saying), and towards getting a return on the cash inside of the machine.
With the right training, this can be done by anyone. And with the right experience can be done quite well.
Should I Buy a ATM?
Before Answering this question, you must ask yourself if either you or your customers will benefit from ATM installation. If the answer is no, you probably don’t need one.
If your answer is yes, there are other factors to consider.
Think of it like buying a car. You don’t just wake up one day, flip a coin, and write a check. Without knowing who you’re buying from, what you’re getting, or how much it costs.
Before making such a large purchase, you think about it, researching car brands, dealerships, styles, pricing, and comparing the different models available.
Only after you’ve chosen what is best for you, do you go make the purchase.

ATM Placement Options For business Owners
When Buying a Car you have many options, you can either
pay cash- This means spending more upfront, but own the car and not lose any money to interest. a much larger investment, but you avoid payments.
Financing- Using someone else’s money (usually a Bank or lender) to purchase the car, and paying them back over time (with interest on top for using their money).
Leasing- You pay a lower monthly amount to drive a new car for a period of time (typically a few years). At the end of the lease, you have the option to buy the car or return it and get another one. Although you get fewer ownership rights, you have fewer responsibilities and don’t have to worry about issues that arise from ownership.

Own the ATM- Buy the ATM yourself, you’ll have full ownership of the ATM, but also will have the responsibility of maintenance, restocking, compliance, and liabilities that come with ownership.
ATM Partnership- Someone else buys the machine, handling all of the maintenance, repairs, installation, and compliance. While you simply stock the machine with cash. This splits the risk between you and the ATM owner. You would still have control of the machine, without the headache of ownership. (plus you get paid)
